(CLP) Commercial Learner's Permit

Congratulations! You are on your way to becoming a safe and confident trucker or bus driver having freedom on the road, job security and a great career! You will need a (CLP) Commercial Learner's Permit prior to receiving your (CDL) Commercial Driver's License.

You may apply for the Washington (CLP) Commercial Learner's Permit at the age of 18 years old or older. However, to operate commercial vehicles with a Class A, Class B or Class C license, you will need to be at least 21 years old. You will not be able to operate outside of Washington state, only intra-state.

The (CLP) Commercial Learner's Permit is valid for 180 days of the date issued. If you wish to extend or renew the permit, you may have an additional 180 days, as long as you renew at least 30 days before to the permit expiration date.
