Course Objectives:
Molecular biology is a branch of microbiology that deals with the molecular-level organization in an organism. Mainly it concerns with two kinds of semantic molecules of life including the proteins and DNA involved in the molecular organization (genes). Thus molecular biology mainly helps us to understand the prime molecules of the living world including DNA, RNA, Proteins - their structure, organization, functions, their synthesis and regulation.
Course Topics:
History of molecular biology and central dogma of molecular biology
Importance of Griffith experiment and transformation
Enzymes and proteins involved in DNA replication
Details of enzymes and steps involved in transcription
Translation steps in prokaryotes
Mecahnisms of regulation of gene expression in prokaryotes
Spontaneous and induced mutations
DNA repair mechanisms
