Our Culture
Creating a Culture of Belonging
At ALP-NC, every story matters, every perspective is valued, and every participant has something to contribute. We foster an environment built on respect, curiosity, collaboration, and shared leadership, where people are encouraged to grow while helping others do the same.
Our Values
Leadership Through Community
We believe leadership is strongest when it is shared. ALP-NC brings together self-advocates, family members, professionals, and allies to learn from one another, build lasting relationships, and create meaningful change together. Leadership isn't just about individual growth, it's about strengthening our collective voice across North Carolina.
Lived Experience Matters
Centering the Voices of Self-Advocates
People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are experts in their own lives. ALP-NC intentionally centers lived experience by creating opportunities for self-advocates to lead conversations, shape learning, and influence systems that impact their communities.
Crafting Access
Designed with Access in Mind
Access isn't an afterthought, it's part of how we build community. From virtual and hybrid learning opportunities to accessible materials, collaborative learning environments, and multiple ways to participate, ALP-NC works to reduce barriers so more leaders can engage, contribute, and thrive. Our goal is to create spaces where everyone belongs and every story can be shared.
As a part of ALP-NC, we offer Monthly Meet-Ups for Facilitators and Alumni. These virtual meetings include professional development topics and networking on advocacy, leadership, and disability justice.
ALP-NC Leaders graduate from our program with enhanced leadership skills. Our alumni have noted that what they learned in ALP-NC supported their pursuit of new educational, professional, and volunteer roles within their communities.
