Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS):
MTSS, Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is an approach to supporting students and provide research based interventions for students that are at risk of not accessing (classroom) instruction.
The MTSS approach includes:
Tier 1 interventions and supports in the classroom performed by the teacher
Tier 2 or 3 interventions facilitated by MTSS-A (academics) and/or MTSS-B (behavior).
Components of the MTSS process:
If you have concerns about your child's academic progress, you should begin by speaking with their classroom teacher. The classroom teacher can continue to provide Tier 1 academic instruction and may refer to the MTSS team for additional strategies. Your child's teacher will be in communication with you to explain their progress in the classroom and specific targeted interventions and strategies to support achievement gaps. The MTSS team, which includes teachers and interventionists that work with your child, may meet and review quantitative and qualitative data to construct specific targeted interventions and supports to address additional concerns and deficits.
