AVID strengthens a students ability to promote their own academic learning in their classrooms. Students can ensure that practices like higher-level questioning, active learning, and the use of academic language become the norm rather than the exception for themselves. AVID encourages students to be leaders and to model and infuse these practices into their days with their peers.
Shifting the leadership culture is a significant challenge that requires cooperation from all levels to abandon a top-down approach. AVID equips students to drive change and spread positivity throughout the school. Students get to work on self-created community service projects, legacy projects to give back to the community, and character building projects to help mentor peers.
