Reclassification is the process whereby a student is reclassified from an English Learner (EL) Status to Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) status. Once a student reclassifies, a students exits the English Language Development Program, additional support is continued for four (4) years in their RFEP Journey.
There are certain criterias a student must meet in order to exit the ELD Program and reclassify (RFEP).
Take the Summative ELPAC test and score a 4 in February. The results received during the summer and reviewed in August.
Score "1 below grade level or at grade level" on the I-Ready or score a "Nearly Met/Exceeded Standard" on the English CAASPP.
The student's English Teacher must give input on the student's overall academic performance (grade, attendance, participation).
It is highly encouraged to have grades C and above in English, History, Mathematics, and World Language.
Once a student meets ALL of the criterias to reclassify, they are considered a Reclassified to Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) Student. Although they are no longer enrolled in an English Language Development Class, they will be monitored and supported by the EL Program to ensure that they are successful in their core content courses.
RFEP students are supported for four years by making sure:
1) Students are engaged in and are maintaining success in core content courses
2) Students make all achievement goals set for grade level peers
3) Students receive support when not making progress
4) Students are provided access to all A-G and advanced courses regardless of language proficiency levels as peers
