COURSE DESCRIPTION: The visual arts program offers students comprehensive art experiences with explorations in painting, drawing, ceramics, and sometimes sculpture. In addition to gaining confidence and proficiency working with a variety of mediums, students will learn about the History, Analysis, and Interpretation of art. Students will learn about the importance of the Principles of Art in good design.

Course Outline
“Rhythm and Movement”
The student will be able to:
• Identify Rhythms occurring in the world around them
• Understand how Rhythms add a sense of movement to a work of art
• Identify and explain Pattern
• Name and identify the types of Rhythm
• Use the Principle of Rhythm to create your own works
“Balance”
The student will be able to:
• Understand why Balance is important in a work of Art
• Explain how visual weight is created and produced it in their own artwork
• Describe the types of Balance and use them in their own artwork
• Tell what different types of Balance can mean in a work of art
“Proportion”
The student will be able to:
• Understand how we perceive Proportion and Scale
• Measure and draw human faces and bodies with correct proportions
• Understand how Artists use Proportion and Distortion to create meaning.
“Variety, Emphasis, Harmony and Unity”
The student will be able to:
• Identify and describe Variety, Emphasis, Harmony and Unity in their environment and in a work of Art
• Understand how Artists use Variety and Emphasis to express their ideas and feelings
• Understand how Artists use the Elements and Principles of Art to create unified works of Art
• Use Variety, Emphasis and Harmony to create their own unified works of Art
Classroom rules
I follow all the policies in the Student handbook which includes the drugs, alcohol, tobacco, fighting, cheating, plagiarizing, weapon, attendance, clothing, harassment & bullying, and language.
Students are not to bring food, cell phones, wireless head sets, etc.
Tardies will be recorded in JMC
Class directions and/or project assignments are written on the whiteboard, they are also listed in Google Classroom
Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings.
Students are expected to be engaged in class discussion and daily work. The students are to be working on Art Projects, ideas for other projects, or sketching during the entire class time until the cleanup time is called.
Students are responsible for their own work areas. Each class is has room clean up chores that the students are expected to complete before leaving each day. All of us need to work together to help keep the classroom clean. If everyone contributes to the mess, then everyone should contribute to cleaning up the mess.
Students should be respectful of other students work and of other students.
No throwing of anything! Throwing clay results in cleaning of the art room after school, or a detention.
Bathroom passes are limited, there is enough time to go to the bathroom before class starts.
If the students are missing class for a band or choir lesson, they should arrange for another student to take notes or explain what they missed. If a student is on vacation, they need to check Google Classroom when they return, or come see me before or after school.
Subjects for assignments should be kept appropriate for school.
Students are expected to take care of school supplies by keeping tools clean and well taken care of for the next group of students to utilize.
Any student abusing internet privilege will receive a verbal warning, If it continues, the student will lose internet privileges for that day, and the assignment would be due the following day.
If you are using time appropriately, assignments should be due on the due date. If I find that the entire class needs more time, I will adjust the due date and notify the students via the white board and verbally.
Students are graded according to the criteria set for individual assignments.
