COURSE DESCRIPTION: The visual arts program offers students comprehensive art experiences with explorations in painting, drawing, ceramics, and sometimes sculpture. In addition to gaining confidence and proficiency working with a variety of mediums, students will learn about the history, analysis, and interpretation of art. Students will learn about the importance of the Elements of Art in good design.
Google Classroom:
All assignments are loaded into Google Classroom and will be expected to be turned into Google Classroom. If it is turned into Google Classroom, the project can be viewed and it is always available (No Projects are Lost). When students have excessive absences, the project can be found online and a version of the concept can be turned in. If supplies are not available at home to complete projects, they may be checked out from the teacher. Or, an alternate project can be completed, of similar design, to replace the classroom project. Students may email me to ask questions.
Absent:
If your child is absent from class, they are still responsible for the completion of the project. Materials are available to check out, or another similar project can replace the in class project. Example: If we work with Oil Pastels during class, the same project may be done with Colored Pencil at home. Or, the student can check Oil Pastels out from the teacher, and return them when they finish the project.
Classroom rules
I follow all the policies in the Student handbook which includes drugs, alcohol, tobacco, fighting, cheating, plagiarizing, weapons, attendance, clothing, harassment & bullying, and language. The students should not need their cell phones. We have IPads in the classroom to upload images of their projects into Google Classroom. They just need to know their School Google Login information.
The students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings and will be dismissed from their seats at the end of class. There will be a seating chart and the seating arrangements will be adjusted as needed throughout the semester.
Students need to clean up after themselves and help other students clean up. We need to work together to keep supplies clean and available for all students to use.
We use classroom supplies at all grade levels. Students are expected to respect tools and supplies by keeping them clean and in working condition for the next group of students.
Students are expected to be engaged in class discussion and daily work.
Students are responsible for their own work areas. Each class will have room clean up chores that the students are expected to complete before leaving each day.
Students should be respectful of other student’s work. No throwing of anything! Throwing clay results in cleaning of the art room after school.
If the students are missing class for a band or choir lesson, they should arrange for another student to take notes or explain what they missed.
Subjects for assignments should be kept appropriate for school.
Grading:
Students are graded according to the criteria set for individual assignments.
Guidelines for Acceptable Art Work: The Art Department has specific guidelines for acceptable artwork. Any work promoting, supporting, or favorably depicting alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sexism, racism, bigotry, hatred towards others, or deemed obscene, vulgar or offensive to the instructor, students, or any specific group of persons, will not be accepted or graded for credit and may result in disciplinary action.
