The Zones of Regulation is a social emotional learning curriculum and regulation program that is used to give kids and adults a way to describe their feelings and manage the energy that comes along with those feelings. The Zones of Regulation categorizes feelings into 4 colors. The Blue Zone represents emotions with low energy, where individuals might have a slow moving body. The Green Zone represents emotions where the body is feeling calm and alert, optimal for learning new information. The Yellow Zone represents emotions where the body is feeling an increase in energy and emotions are getting stronger. Students may need a way to manage their energy or release some energy in order to move forward when in the yellow zone. The Red Zone represents emotions where the body is experiencing really high and intense energy. These feelings may be overwhelming and lead to a loss of control.
