Students work hard to show good character at Dover-Eyota. Each week a word is announced over the PA system, along with its definition. During the week teachers do activities with their students to help them understand the meaning of the word of the week and why it's important to build their character. Students then are recognized for using the word of the week in their conduct around the school. Those students caught displaying the word of the week in their actions the most that week have their class picture taken and displayed on the bulletin board as behavior role models. Below you will find an SEL presentation with all of the words, their definitions, and family activity ideas to help your child grow in that area.
We follow the CASEL framework for social emotional learning. CASEL stands for Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning. Here is a link to the CASEL website if you're interested in learning more, https://casel.org/
Each word will be posted for one week starting the second week of school. Once all words have been posted, the cycle starts over with the five domains of the social emotional learning, according to CASEL. Here is a link to the 2026-2027 Dover-Eyota Elementary Word of the Week Schedule
Our Schoolwide Social Emotional Learning Team is working hard to bring new opportunities for our students to grow their social and emotional skills.
