About Us

The Front Runner is a student-run publication that covers DeSales High School (KY) Athletics, as well as other sports-related topics. Students choose their own topics, write their own articles, submit them to student editors, and upload their articles all on their own. Our writers receive lessons in how to be a better writer, a better sports journalist, and a better leader. We have been operating since the Fall of 2025.

On top of traditional articles, students also host a weekly podcast called The Colt Cast, in which they discuss DHS sports, local sports, and whatever else they are interested in. That podcast is published to Youtube, but can be easily accessed on this website.

Our most popular endeavor is the publication of The DIBL Weekly during DeSales Intramural Basketball League (DIBL) season. Much of our staff dedicates their time to covering one of the most unique intramural leagues in the state, creating a newsletter-like publication that is sent out to the entire student body. The Front Runner staff ranks the houses in DIBL using an AP Top-25 format, votes on All-DeSalean (All-American) teams, issues weekly awards to players, and tracks stats across each season.

We have several goals in hopes of expanding our coverage in the coming years:

• Play-by-play coverage of DHS sports

• Partnership with Bellarmine University Athletics

• Daily/weekly closed-circuit television broadcast

• Print publications
