GOALS OF THE MUSIC PROGRAM
Welcome to 4-8 performance music! We encourage all students to participate in our program. By working together to attain the following goals, we will continue our strong tradition of musical excellence in De Pere.
The goals of the 4-8 performance music program are:
Students will have a positive experience learning to play an instrument and/or sing
Students will gain a strong foundation of musical knowledge through performance
Students will gain self esteem in an atmosphere where they feel safe to try and learn new skills
Students will develop into responsible, appreciative, self-directed learners through cooperation and teamwork
Students will gain a lifelong appreciation for music
REHEARSAL/LESSON STRUCTURE
Music instruction takes place in two forms: rehearsals and lessons. Large group rehearsals take place every other day. Lessons take place once every 8 school days in small groups.
SWITCH POLICY
Our policy allows students to switch performance music classes during the first 7 school days of first and third quarter. Forms may be obtained from the front office or from a performance music teacher and must be signed by a parent, performance music teacher, and principal. Students must remain in one performance music.
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE
We support PBIS. Students in the classroom need to be respectful, responsible, and safe.
Be Respectful
Listen quietly and attentively without interrupting.
Raise hand to speak and do not speak out of turn.
Actively participate throughout class.
Respect the participation of your peers.
No negative comments or put downs.
Be Responsible
Have your instrument, music, and a pencil for rehearsal each day.
Be in your assigned spot when class is ready to begin.
Stay on task during class.
Put all of your materials away in the appropriate spot at the end of class.
Remember to come to your scheduled lesson time.
Be Safe
Walk in and out of the classroom.
Keep hands and feet to yourself.
Do not push or shove.
Do not chew gum.
IMPORTANT DATES
Concerts are an essential part of a performance based class. These concerts are a summative assessment of your student's skills. Students enjoy seeing a full audience, so they can show what they have learned. Since all performances are student assessments, they are expected to be at all concerts, unless they are ill or have a family emergency. If your student is not at a concert, notification (e-mail, phone call, or note) from a parent or guardian is required explaining the absence. Due to planning, if possible, advance notification is appreciated. Students who miss the concert will need to make up that portion of their grade. A summative performance assessment will take place during their workshop time. Students will be required to individually perform all concert pieces for their director.
(All events held in the Foxview Auditorium. Information on specific times and arrival times will come from the directors.)
