Jazz Band

Jazz Band is open by invite only to 6th grade Band students that demonstrate grade level proficiency on their instrument, as well as a maturity to rehearse and practice on their own.  Students are invited to join when the director knows they are ready through observations of their skills during workshop lessons.  Student must be able to handle the challenges of Jazz music technically and have a grasp on assignments given from the lesson book for workshop lessons.  You simply cannot be in Jazz Band unless you are disciplined and classically trained on your instrument, and continued lessons on your individual instrument is essential!   

Any Band instrument is welcome, and students that play a rhythm section instrument (drum set, bass guitar, guitar, piano/keys) will need to demonstrate that they can read music and/or play chords(guitar).  While Jazz Band is an invite only group, if a student wishes to join they should talk to Mr. Andersen during workshop lesson time to see where they are at with grade level skills etc... and we can go from there to discuss joining.
