If my child knows what they want to play already can we rent it now (exceptions would be alto sax and percussion, there are prerequisites)?
Yes!
Where can I pick up the Band lesson book?
Lesson books are specific to the instrument that a student has selected to play in Band. Any music store in the Green Bay area should be carrying the "Tradition of Excellence " lesson book in stock (DO NOT get the Standard of Excellence book), however, I'd call them before heading out to the store (Instrumental Music Co., Jim's Music, Heid Music) and have them hold one for you. You could even call Instrumental Music Co and purchase the book, or purchase through their Rental link page and they will deliver the book(s) to school and I can hand it to your Band student as they can deliver daily.
What if my child picked an instrument they don't like?
If your Band student realizes they made the wrong instrument choice, and he or she has discussed it with the Band director and you at home, switching instruments is no problem. If you are renting, you can exchange an instrument easily through the music store without delaying the learning for to long.
When does my child need their instrument by?
Ideally we'd like to see all students have an instrument to play by the 9/14/22.
Does the school provide instruments?
Parents will need to provide instruments. One suggestion is to rent. If a student changes their mind on what to play, it is an easy exchange instead of purchasing and then having to resell. Area stores are Instrumental Music Co., Jim's Music, and Heid Music Co.
When will rented instruments arrive?
Any instruments ordered through a local music store should arrive to the Band room at school as soon as their stock has arrived. We are aiming for 9/13/22.
Can we bring rented instruments home right away, or have them delivered?
In our opinion, it is best to let the instruments be delivered to school so we can help your band student learn how to properly assemble, clean, and maintain their instrument.
Is Ebay, Craigslist, or Facebook's Marketplace ok to buy an instrument(s)?
ONLY if it someone local, AND if they are willing to let you take the instrument to a music store to let them check out it's playing condition. You can also bring it to a director at school before purchasing (PREFERRED). If they aren't willing , run away fast!
What supplies does my child need?
If you are renting an instrument the local music stores have our supply list/requirements.
5th graders will need the "Tradition of Excellence" book 1 (red), a pencil, and an instrument in good working condition. The Foxview supply list for registration is current and accurate. Local music stores know what reeds, oil, or percussion supplies are needed for your instrument of choice.
6th graders will need the "Tradition of Excellence" book 1 and 2 (red and blue), a pencil, and an instrument in good working condition. The Foxview supply list for registration is current and accurate. Local music stores know what reeds, oil, or percussion supplies are needed for your instrument of choice.
What if we already have an instrument, should we have it cleaned?
Band directors see hundreds of instruments throughout the years, please, feel free to send the instrument to school and Mr. Andersen will be glad to play through it to see how your instrument plays. Instead of it getting a complete repad or some unnecessary work done, Mr. Andersen might be able to save you some money by making a small adjustment or give you an idea of what to tell area repairman to look for.
Where does my student keep their instrument at school.
Students may use a locker in the Band room to store their instrument. Some students don't want a Band locker and bring their instrument back to their classroom everyday to take home and practice, which is fine. Locks for the Band lockers are not necessary, as Mr. Andersen is in the Band room ALL day long. If a lock is used, Band teachers must have a copy of the combination and / or copy of the key.
Are the band directors cool?
Yes!
Is my child going to have fun in Band?
Yes!
