Virtual LAC Session
By: Rhyan B. Loresco (ICT Coordinator)
The Quezon City Local Government and Schools Division Office (SDO) project to provide every student in public high school a DepEd Google Suite Account prompted the ICT Coordinator of Carlos P. Garcia High School a mechanism to assist teachers in his school in submitting request for the creation of student’s account.
It is understandable that physical contact is strictly prohibited nowadays especially now that there is a pandemic, teachers are forced to devise other ways to trace and get pertinent information from their advisory class. Facebook Messenger, aside from making calls and text, is the cheapest and efficient way to do this. But soliciting student’s response are lengthy and tend to become repetitive, that a database where to put this important information is helpful. In the event that same information is needed once again, the school may refer to the database as records.
This is the reason why a LAC session to train teachers in using and developing an organized excel workbook is timely and relevant to them. The team is composed of Mrs. Marivic B. Francisco as LAC Leader, Mr. Rodrigo Q. Picardal as LAC Facilitator, Mr. Rhyan B. Loresco and Alfred B. Solajes as Resource Speaker and Ms. Lalaine S. Lustica and Agnes Santiago as Documenter.
The LAC Session is conducted virtually through Google Meet and attended by 28 teachers from various subject areas. It has the following objectives:
· Orient teachers on Google Suite Account for Students.
· Provide new instructions on the creation of account.
· Revisit the roles of ICT coordinator, LIS, Grade level chairpersons, class advisers.
· Facilitate training on organizing list and managing workbooks.
Mr. Rhyan Loresco, the School ICT Coordinator, served as the resource speaker and he clarified the purpose of Google Suite account for students. Google Suite accounts are to requested by the students by giving his / her LRN, Full name, Contact number and e-mail address to his / her adviser. Then the Class adviser will forward the request to the ICT Coordinator using a template.
It is an excel file that contains blank fields where Class Advisers can enter names, LRN and contact information of their students. Once this template is received the ICT Coordinator, he can easily transfer the contents to the CSV template recommended by the SDO-ICT section.
During the session, Mr. Loresco has clarified the roles of each LIS, ICT coordinator, focal person and class advisers in managing the accounts.
Mrs. Marivic B. Francisco applauded this intervention of ICT LAC team which aimed to capacitate the teachers in using ICT tools like Microsoft Office Excel. She said that this will help teachers to address difficulties in using computer and modern apps and hope that by doing LAC sessions, teachers will be more literate and outputs will be generated in less time.
