Hello there my dear students, I am teacher Paul. I hope that you are doing great today and that you are ready to explore new learning journey with me. Today, we are going to understand why does the planet EARTH is the only planet in our solar system that can sustain life? How does the planet EARTH supports life? We will also compare Earth to the other planets in the solar system and lastly we will recognize the impact of human activities to our planet. Let's start our lesson by watching this video.
Our home planet is the third planet from the Sun, and the only place we know of so far that’s inhabited by living things. While Earth is only the fifth largest planet in the solar system, it is the only world in our solar system with liquid water on the surface. Just slightly larger than nearby Venus, Earth is the biggest of the four planets closest to the Sun, all of which are made of rock and metal.
The name Earth is at least 1,000 years old. All of the planets, except for Earth, were named after Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. However, the name Earth is a Germanic word, which simply means “the ground.” (https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/earth/in-depth/)
Guide questions:
Why do you think Earth can sustain life?
How earth is different from other planets in our solar system?
Now, let's study the given table below. and analyze the factors to consider in identifying planets which is habitable.
To sum up our lesson, let's have this video.
REFLEXTIVE ACTIVITY:
Now that you have the understanding on on why our planet earth is a unique planet in our solar system lets have this activity.
Let's check your understanding. Answer the following questions based on your understanding.
Which among the eight planet in our solar system has the following factors that makes a planet habitable?
Do you think planet Mercury has water? Why?
Life seems limited to a temperature range of minus 15oC to 115oC. In this range, liquid water can still exist under certain conditions, do you think planet Uranus and Neptune has a suitable temperature to sustain life?
ESSAY. Discuss why Earth is considered a unique planet within our solar system. In your essay, analyze the geological, atmospheric, and biological factors that contribute to Earth’s ability to support life. Include the significance of Earth’s position relative to the Sun, its magnetic field, and the presence of water. How do these factors interact to create a stable environment for diverse ecosystems?
I hope that you have enjoyed learning our module. if you have some questions or clarifications about our topic you may send your queries in our group chat to address your concern. see you next module journey.
