ABSTRACT

The main objective of this study is to improve the Class Reading Profile (CRP)of the Grade 6 learners through the Project Spiral Progression Strategy (SPS). The consolidated data during the Phil-IRI Pretest projected that 91.67% of the class belonged to the frustration level, so there was a need to fix the CRP. The researcher utilized the one-group pretest-posttest research design. After analyzing the Phil-IRI Pretest result, Project SPS was planned and conducted. This innovation included reading materials, specifically ten stories with different levels of comprehension test questions. After the conduct of Project SPS, it was proven that the innovation had a bearing on the reading performance of the pupils. The rate of frustration level readers decreased as revealed in the Phil-IRI Post-Test conducted before the end of the school year. In addition, independent and instructional-level readers increased from 8.33% to 33.33% for instructional-level readers and 0% to 8.33% for independent-level readers. These results made the proponent recommend that there must be constant oral reading drills and other reading activities with suitable reading materials to be utilized in the conduct of reading intervention.
