ABSTRACT

This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the LOVE MUSIC (Learning Activity Sheet and Audiovisual Presentation as Educational Materials in Music) to improve musical comprehension skills, particularly in identifying different kinds of notes and rests, of the 30 grade 4 pupils of Bustamante Elementary School. Data were analyzed and interpreted utilizing various statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, paired sample t-test, and Eta square. The results revealed that the respondents who used the modular distance learning, adopting the learning activity sheet, and the pupils who used the adopted learning activity sheet and the LOVE MUSIC intervention differed in their pretest and posttest results, particularly in identifying different notes and rests. In addition, pupils who were exposed or not exposed to the implementation of LOVE MUSIC showed an improvement in their academic achievement in identifying the different kinds of notes and rests. However, the experimental group obtained higher scores compared to the control group. Furthermore, the differences in the respondents' academic achievement indicated that the LOVE MUSIC intervention significantly improved their musical skills. Finally, the LOVE MUSIC intervention aided the grade four pupils in loving the music subject. They quickly identified different notes and rests, and they enjoyed and felt glad watching with their classmates. The study recommends utilizing the LOVE MUSIC intervention to further test its effectiveness in teaching other competencies in Music in all grade levels. It encourages all music teachers to create audiovisual presentations on various topics to quickly transfer the necessary learning to students, especially in this pandemic where face-to-face classes are still prohibited.
