Implementation of Multi-Grade Education in the Public Elementary Schools of Gamu District: Basis for Enhancement Program

ABSTRACT


The main purpose of this study is to investigate the implementation of Multi-grade Education in Gamu District to design enhancement program for Multi-grade Education. The utilization of descriptive-survey design was employed through the validated questionnaire to the 12 teachers and school heads and the 96 selected parents. Based on the obtained results, the following are concluded: (a) there is a full implementation of the Multi-grade Education Program in schools of Gamu District as perceived by teachers, school heads and parents., (b) Lack of fund, school facilities, and equipment and work overload for multi-grade teachers are the challenges met by the teachers and school heads on the implementation of the Multi-grade Education, (c) there is a significant relationship on the implementation of multi-grade education as perceived by the teachers and the challenges encountered while no significant relationship on the perceived implementation of school head and parents and the challenges met, and (d) Explicit teaching, Integrative learning, and Lecture-brainstorming are the most-used strategies by multi-grade teachers while Project-based learning and Analogy-based Teaching are often used. It is recommended that there should be teacher and administrator training, teacher recruitment and support, and materials development and supply to support multi-grade schools. Creation of localized policies, conducting pedagogical training amidst pandemic.
