Parenting Practices of Stakeholders in Dalig Kalinga Elementary School: Basis In Designing A Functional Parenting Program

ABSTRACT


This study aimed to determine the parenting practices of stakeholders in Dalig Kalinga Elementary School. The result was used as a basis in designing a functional parental program. The respondents included 138 parents of kindergarten to grade six in SY 2020-2021. Frequency rank, mean, and Analysis of Variance were used to analyze the data gathered. The findings in the study are as follows: a) Parents have no favorable parenting practices at home; b) On their educational support, the study revealed that most parents are not involved in their child’s education; c) The predominant problem is the non-attendance and non-participation of parents during meetings in school; d) The parenting practices of respondents at home is not dependent on the type of family, the number of children in Dalig Kalinga Elementary School and occupation of the father but dependent on the occupation of mothers; and f) The occupation of parents has something to do on the education support practices. The implication of these results redounds the emphasis on the importance of parental involvement to improve learners’ academic performance. Hence, the parental program was designed to help parents improve their parenting practices at home and their education support practices.
