ABSTRACT

This research was conducted to evaluate the Interdisciplinary Approach to balancing chemical equations skills of Grade 9 students enrolled at Doña Aurora National High School for the school year 2020-2021. Using the Nonrandomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design, this study compared a conveniently sampled Control Group (N=23, M=6.47, SD=3.28) and Treatment Group (N=23, M=12.91, SD=2.37) in balancing chemical equations. The Control Group and Treatment Group were taught with Inspection Method and Interdisciplinary Approach to balance chemical equations. Comparison of the gain scores revealed that the interdisciplinary approach brought a significant difference, t (40) = 7.612, p < .00001, in the students’ balancing chemical equations skill. Following Cohen’s d guidelines, the interdisciplinary approach had a medium effect, (d=0.75). Hence, utilization and adoption of this approach is highly encouraged. Similar studies in other locales are recommended to further test the approach.
