ABSTRACT

The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Phet Simulation as a tool in teaching General Chemistry 1, particularly in Balancing Chemical Equations among Grade 11 STEM students of Saint Paul Vocational and Industrial High School. One group pre and post-test design was used in the study with a total of 22 respondents. The descriptive-comparative approach was utilized to compare the pre-test and post-test scores of the respondents and their performance before and after the use of Phet Simulation. Mean, paired-sample T-test, and Cohen’s D was used to analyze the data gathered. Based on the findings, the pre-test result revealed a mean score of 6.6364, which indicates low performance. However, the students acquired a high-performance level in post-test with a mean score of 16.591 after the utilization of Phet Simulation. Statistical results showed a significant difference (p <0.001) in the students’ performance before and after the use of Phet simulation at 0.05 level of significance. Further, Cohen’s D obtained an effect size of 7.106586, signifying a large effect on the students’ performance. Thus, the adoption and utilization of this tool in teaching balancing chemical equations are recommended. Further studies may also be conducted using a large sample size.
