ABSTRACT


This research looked into the effectiveness of Strategic Teaching Activity in Reading in Distance Learning (STARDL) for sequential readers of Lalauanan High School, particularly the grades 7 and 8 students the SY 2020-2021. This study was composed of sixty (60) respondents chosen through a random sampling conducted in the First Quarter to determine their reading and comprehension skills progress. Pre-test and Post-test consisted of five (5) questions to the participants to assess their comprehension skills. The San Diego Quick Assessment Tool (SDQAT) was also utilized to gauge the reading levels of the respondents. The descriptive-experimental research design was used in this study. The results of this study revealed that there was an improvement in reading and comprehension skills among the sequential readers after utilizing the STAR-DL. Based on the findings in this action research, the proponent concludes that there is a significant difference in students’ reading and comprehension skills using STAR-DL. With this conclusion, the researcher recommends the STAR-DL as a positive solution in improving emergent readers’ reading and comprehension skills because the literary text is illustrated with English and Filipino subtexts. However, further studies should also be conducted for the reliability of the results drawn in this study.
