CTP (CaTerPillar) Strategy and Retelling Skills of Grade 6 Pupils of Ambatali Elementary School

ABSTRACT


This study determines the effectiveness of CTP (CaTerPillar) Strategy in improving the retelling skills of Grade 6 pupils of Ambatali Elementary School for the School Year 2020-2021. This study utilized a One Group Pretest Posttest Research Design. The total enumeration technique was used among the 31 pupil- respondents. The mean, one-paired sample test and eta2 were utilized in analyzing the gathered data. The study revealed the following: low performance of the respondents during the pretest is very evident, with a weighted mean of 10.19. At the same time, the high performance of the respondents is also very evident, with a weighted mean of 38.71. It shows that Caterpillar (CTP) utilization is highly effective among the respondents with a .000 significant difference with a 5% significance level. Moreover, based on the result of the study, it has been proven that CTP strategy effectively improves the skills of the grade 6 pupils in retelling. Additionally, the result of the study might serve as an eye-opener to other English teachers to conduct a wideranging study about the other skills to be developed in teaching reading. Finally, games present practice opportunities, often without the need for teachers to provide the problems. Thus, the researcher recommends that this strategy shall be implemented and disseminated adequately among the teachers for adoption and implementation.
