Graze S. Natividad, Teacher III, Barucboc National High School

ABSTRACT

This study focused on testing the effectiveness of the Mathema-tic-tac-toe Game and Competence in Operations on Rational Algebraic Expressions of Grade 8 students at Barucboc National High School for the school year 2020-2021. This study utilized a One-group Pretest Post-test Research Design consisting of 33 students to uncover the effect of the proposed Mathema-tic-tac-toe game on the level of competence of the learners. The researcher used statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, independent sample t-test, and eta2 to analyze the pretest and post-test scores. The respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The study showed that utilizing the Mathema-Tic-Tac-Toe Game significantly improves the students’ competence in operations on Rational Algebraic Expressions. Furthermore, the use of board games indicated a significant difference in the results of pre-test and posttest. Hence, the intervention used improved the learners’ competence in operation on rational algebraic expressions. Therefore, the researcher recommends using Mathema-Tic-Tac-Toe Game in teaching operations on rational algebraic expressions.
