Classroom Observation and the Teachers’ Performance In Teaching and Learning Process

Florina D. Guerrero, Head Teacher III, Quirino National High School

ABSTRACT

Classroom observation plays an essential role in ensuring that teaching and learning become more effective and visible. It is an avenue for the classroom teachers to be provided with constructive feedback centered on improving instructional practices and increasing better learning outcomes according to quality, efficiency, and timeliness. The conduct of classroom observations also highlights the points for improvement and teachers’ best practices that can be used and adopted by similar teachers who opt to be adept in their respective fields of specialization. The overall findings of this paper reveal that teachers’ perceptions of quarterly classroom observations helped them improve their CO ratings for the last two years. This further implies that teachers’ instructional techniques are developmentally progressing based on their ratings interpreted using the Results-based Performance Management System standards. Furthermore, the correlation between teachers’ perception of CO and their actual CO ratings shows a very high positive relationship which denotes that affirmation on CO redounds to better teacher quality. In general, the research concludes that outstanding classroom observation rating suggests quality assured teaching and learning processes.
