Catherine P. Seterra, Teacher III, San Francisco Elementary School

ABSTRACT

Enhancing the skills of using compound and complex sentences to show cause and effect and problem-solution relationships is a life skill. During the School Year 2019-2020 at San Francisco Elementary School, the School-Based Report on the records of the Top 5 Least Mastered Skills in English 5 based on Quarterly Assessment showed that use of compound and complex sentences to show cause and effect and problem-solution relationship of ideas was least mastered for the first quarter in English 5. Hence, this study aimed to determine the effectiveness of WATCH (Watch, Analyze and Tell and be Creative at Home) intervention in the specific competency in English 5 (EN5G-Iva-1.8.1. ). Pretest and Post-test Experimental Research Design was used with 37 pupils as respondents employing the universal technique. Using the mean, standard deviation, paired-samples t-test, and Cohen’s-d, it was revealed that their skills in the specific competency in English 5 significantly improved through WATCH intervention and displayed a significant difference. Therefore, this intervention should be sustained and shared with other teachers.
