Alvin A. Eleydo, Head Teacher III, Mapuroc Elementary School

ABSTRACT

As an established fact that reading performance is affected by different factors, this study on the Predictors of Reading Performance in English of the Grades 4 to 6 Pupils is conducted to design a Reading Program and give additional insights on these factors. This study tested the predictors that influenced the low performance in Reading in English of the Grade 4 to 6 pupils of Mapuroc Elementary School for SY 2020-2021. Descriptive-Predictive Research Design was utilized to find the predictors that influence the low performance in reading in English of the 30 pupil-respondents. Standard Deviation, mean, and regression analysis were used to describe the predictors such as their perception in reading in English, reading environment and reading strategies/activities, and describing the respondents’ performance in reading. The results revealed that the prediction model that focuses on Perception in Reading in English, Reading Environment and Reading Strategies/Activities as a whole predict reading performance. However, only Perception on Reading in English is not significant in prediction reading performance out of three predictors. It is implied that these predictors must be considered as a set in the crafting of School Reading Programs.
