Efficacy of Elisa M (Elaborating, Identifying, Solving, Analyzing and Monitoring Mathematical Problems) In Ratio and Proportion among Grade 6 Pupils in Mambabanga Elementary School Bridge and Roll Game and Vocabulary Skills of Grade 1 in Iloco, Filipino and English

ABSTRACT


Learning about ratio and proportion is necessary for learners as it develops concepts and skills related to comparing and differentiating figures, conversion, and many more which are all fundamental in algebraic concepts. Hence, this study was conducted to test the effectiveness of ELISA M in teaching ratio and proportions it employed two-group pre-test post-test research design. Data was collected from 46 Grade 6 pupils: 23 for the experimental group and another 23 for the control group. Results showed that the achievement in ratio and proportion of the experimental group was very satisfactory compared to the control group which was satisfactory. Further, there was a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test scores of the two groups; the experimental group performed better than the control group. It revealed that the use of ELISA M had a large effect on the achievement of the pupils in ratio and proportion compared to small effect of the lecture method. Moreover, ELISA M had a moderate effect on the magnitude of the difference between the scores of the control and experimental group. This implied that the use of ELISA M is an effective intervention material in improving the academic achievement of pupils on ratio and proportion.
