17 years of hard work—17 years upholding the dream of his liking—17 years of striving to be known.
Strong, young, flexible, and witty, EJ Obiena remains the top of his prime as he makes history, resetting his own record despite the pours of the rain, bravely capturing his third straight pole vault crown with 5.65 meters.
“Pole Vault Superstar” as many calls him, stretches to the medium, inspiring at the same time motivating athletes, most especially those who aspires to become a pole vault winner like himself. Joining competitive players along with the best of the best around the world, indeed age is just a number as being a 17-year-old teen would make it to the top, breaking the lingering stigma of age and experience superiority.
“Bringing home the gold is the mission. That’s the plan, that’s the mindset. That’s what we came to do. I didn’t come there thinking I’m the best, I came to thrive, I came to win no matter what.”
Winning in the Sea Games is one notable achievement that everyone calls upon, yet what matters is the hardwork and perseverance to reach the end of grasping the holy grail.
“If the world turns upside down, I need to have that goal at the end of the day.”
Obiena’s age and drive to seek the wonders of the world inclines the opportunity of opening close door. New experiences, new room for improvement.
Indeed, being an athlete is the way to groove!
EJ, slayed!
