Years of ignorance are finally coming to an end.
Indigenous groups nationwide have long suffered from it's fellow Countrymen's neglect. They were stripped of various opportunities due to the lack of support and acknowledgement they receive from the government. Department of Education's (DepEd) current administration is shedding light onto the situation and is taking actions to not only level up Indigenous People's (IP) education but also their future.
A current struggle for IPs has been their low literacy rates which has hindered them to property adjust into society. This subjects them to harmful and helpless situations due to miscommunication. DepEd's plans to increase literacy rates in these minorities like Basa MIMAROPA is truly commendable. These programs give leeway for more accessible education since it aims to cater to all Filipinos, not just IPs. Thus, contributes to a future wherein everybody is given opportunity.
"With the suddenness of this all, it is rather a low blow to the young journalists. Considering this is what campus journalists have to face despite being stripped of opportunity by the pandemic itself."
"Not only do teachers serve as the cultivators o the youth but also the withholders of older in the education system."
Additionally, lack of food also weighs on Indigenous communities. IP students have to suffer grueling days without proper food to sustain them. No human can learn under an empty stomach; bringing up the problem of low attendance. DepEd saw this problem and took action by implementing feeding programs. This was truly effective since attendance rates skyrocketed from 55% to a whopping 92%. Not only does this shows DepEd's competence but also, spreads awareness to the pressing problems of IPs.
Despite the decades worth of burdens that past DepEd administrations inflicted on indigenous learners due to their lack of action, current projects to show up for it bring promise.
All in all, no learner should be left behind. Philippines is a diverse nation so the education scene should also reflect that. No more ignorance, proper action and purpose is the only thing needed to level up Philippine education.
