Wash In School Program

The WinS Policy or DepEd Order No. 10, s. 2016 titled Policy and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program was issued 19 February, 2016. It was presented by Secretary Armin Luistro at the 2016 Presidential Conference of WASH in Schools in Pasay City on the 18th of March 2016.

The DepEd WinS Program is designed to achieve learning and health outcomes of Filipino students through a comprehensive, sustainable, and scalable school-based WASH program pursuant to the State’s mandate to defend the right of children to dignity, assistance, and protection from conditions that would hamper their development.

The DepEd crafted the Wash in Schools Policy (DepEd Order No. 10 s. 2016), as a holistic program for personal health care and environmental sanitation through a set of standards for proper and correct health practices in schools. It goes beyond handwashing, toothbrushing, and deworming – which are the key programs of the EHCP – to cover water, sanitation including food handling and preparation, hygiene including Menstrual Hygiene Management, deworming, health education, and capacity building.

Narrative Report on WinS S.Y. 2021-2022

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the world turns to a simple age-old solution to reduce the risk of disease transmission – handwashing with soap and water. Through our WASH in Schools Program, DepEd has institutionalized actions to improve handwashing facilities and instill handwashing behavior among learners. With the children continuing their learning at home because of the pandemic, we call on families to make their homes a safe environment to live and learn; and teach their children to make handwashing a habit. Teachers had Parent Orientation to educate the parents about prevention of corona virus and importance of handwashing. Teachers at Indang East Elementary School also included in their Weekly Home Learning Plan some activities in WinS like toothbrushing Activity and Handwashing Activity and waste segregation. Teachers also send videos to learners about proper toothbrushing and handwashing. Parents and pupils send pictures and videos while doing these activities. To save lives and reduce illness, it is vital that we combine our expertise in health, education, communication and community knowledge to raise awareness and promote hygienic and safe practices.
