Gulod Malaya Elementary School measures 1,585.47 sq.meter,located at St. Luke St., Marvi Hills Subd. , Gulod Malaya, San Mateo Rizal. The school was established through the joint effort of Mr. Jose J. San Miguel, Jr. in cooperation with Barangay Captain Evangeline Concepcion and the inititive of Barangay Councilors headed by Mr. Leon Alba. The school started in 1993 having only a teacher named Mr. Mario Garovillo under the guidance of the school's first ever principal Mr. Jose J. San Miguel Jr. who served the school until 1999 but before the end of his term 5 additional teachers were positioned as replacement for Mr. Garovillo as he was assigned to the other District. The teachers were; Mrs. Consuelo A. Tolosa, Mrs. Vilma Cabungan, Mrs. Marites H. Paginag, Mrs. Teresita Adona and Mrs. Raquel T. Ortega. It was in School Year 1998-1999, when Gulod Malaya Primary School, became a full pledged elementary school.
Before, Barangay Gulod Malaya was just part and parcel of Barangay Ampid. But the said brgy. has gained self-governance in September 1987 for it has achieved the required population of more than two thousand resident living in the said area, which is one of the requirements in establishing an autonomy of self rule as a barangay. It has passed the requirement of a plebiscite from the residents of Ampid and Gulod Malaya.
An immediate election was conducted for the election of Barangay Officials. And from then on Barangay Gulod Malaya has been recognized as one of the barangays in San Mateo.
Barangay Gulod Malaya was first governed by the elected Barangay Captain, Mrs. Evangeline Concepcion in 1987. During her term, the first barangay hall was constructed, and initiated the construction of Gulod Malaya Elementary School. Today, Barangay Gulod Malaya has a population of fourteen thousand four hundred twelve (14,412) and a sprawling area of one thousand and seventy-nine(1079) hectares. It comprises of nine(9) subdivisions, the composition of which are subdivision dwellers and informal settlers. The barangay has its own covered court with, Multi-Purpose Bldg. which is currently under the supervision of Marvi Hills’ Home Owners Assoc. It also has a Lying-in, Barangay Hall with Day Care Centers, R.I.C. and Health Center.
