BUTUAN CITY — Educators from Central Butuan District I gathered at the Butuan Central Elementary School (BCES) library on July 3, 2026, for the annual District Research Forum. The event, themed "Strengthening Educational Excellence through Research-Driven Innovation, Inclusive Practices, and Transformative Governance," highlighted a wide array of teacher-led studies aimed at improving learner outcomes across various grade levels.
The forum featured an intensive program of oral presentations where researchers from the Butuan City Special Education (SPED) Center, Butuan Central Elementary School, and West Integrated School shared findings on instructional interventions and school management strategies.
Innovations in Pedagogy and Inclusion
The research projects presented covered diverse topics, focusing heavily on literacy, numeracy, and inclusive education. Key presentations included:
Inclusive Practices: Researchers at the Butuan City SPED Center showcased interventions for learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder and intellectual disabilities, such as the use of "Virtue Badge" systems to minimize shouting and the application of "Card Talk" to facilitate communication.
Literacy and Language Interventions: Numerous studies focused on boosting vocabulary and reading proficiency, including the "Project TUKLAS" for Grade 1 learners and the "SPARK" intervention to improve reading comprehension.

BUTUAN CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) Caraga Region underscored its commitment to evidence-based policy and curriculum enhancement during the 2nd Quarter Online Research Stakeholders' Forum held via MS Teams on June 30, 2026.
The virtual forum served as a platform for showcasing innovative research outputs from across the division, aimed at improving educational quality, modernizing assessments, and fostering digitally enabled schools.
Revolutionizing Science Instruction
A central highlight of the forum was the presentation by Ms. Roxan Antonette F. Ato from the Schools Division of Butuan City, who shared her study titled, "Enhancing Grade 10 Learners' Conceptual Understanding of Gas Laws through ATO SciLab10: An Interactive Mobile Application".
Ms. Ato’s research addresses critical challenges in science education, specifically the difficulty learners face in grasping the mathematical relationships and particle behavior inherent in Gas Laws. By leveraging ATO SciLab10, an interactive mobile application, her study demonstrated that technology could effectively bridge the gap caused by limited laboratory resources and frequent learning disruptions.
The intervention proved to be a resounding success; participants at the forum noted that the application significantly improved conceptual understanding, with student mean scores jumping from 11.38 in the pretest to 24.68 in the posttest. Her work directly aligns with the region’s focus on the "5-Point Agenda," particularly the mandate for improved education quality through a modernized curriculum.
Strengthening Educational Stakeholdership
The forum brought together a diverse group of education leaders and experts, including Research Coordinators, the CLMD Chief, CID and SGOD Chiefs, and both Regional and Schools Division Office (SDO) Science Supervisors. Also in attendance were the school heads of the presenting researchers, reflecting a unified approach to educational development. Butuan City Division was represented by Dr. Luisito G. Pero, SGOD Chief, Mrs. Jean B. Ramirez, Division Science Coordinator, Mr. Jay O. Directo, Division Research Coordinator, and Mrs. Avelina J. Galgo, School head of Agusan Pequeno National High School.
The event concluded with an overwhelming commitment from the stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of such research projects. The discussions emphasized the immediate need to move beyond presentation and into action, with plans to formulate formal policies and regional implementation guidelines to integrate successful innovations—like Ms. Ato’s mobile application—into the wider school system.
By transforming research findings into actionable intervention plans, DepEd Caraga continues to foster a culture of inquiry that directly supports the academic recovery and long-term success of its learners.

BUTUAN CITY — Several teacher-researchers from the Schools Division of Butuan City have gained approval for funding under the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) 2026, following the release of Division Memorandum No. 199, s. 2026, dated April 8, 2026.
The memorandum, issued by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Minerva T. Albis, officially announced the approved Action Research and Basic Research proposals originating from Butuan City Division, in reference to Regional Memorandum No. 0303, s. 2026.
Seven Action Research Proposals Funded
A total of seven Action Research proposals from the division were approved, with each study receiving an allocation of ₱7,000.00. These research initiatives focus on instructional innovation, learner performance, leadership development, and technology integration in basic education.
The approved Action Research studies and their proponents are:
• “Assessment-Guided Learning Recovery: Evaluating the RDIA Model for Improving Grade 11 General Science Performance” Proponent: Shirley Anne H. Laxamana
• “Enhancing Teachers' Pedagogical Practices and Student Learning Outcomes through Contextualized Digital Learning Using Eduaide.AI” Proponent: Emman A. Litera
• “BiolabBox (BLB): A Conceptualized Biology Laboratory Kit to Enhance Grade 8 Students' Mastery of Mitosis and Meiosis” Proponent: Leah R. Cruzado
• “Enhancing Leadership Effectiveness in the Supreme Elementary Learner Government (SELG) through the Foundation for Responsible Advocacy, Mentorship and Empowerment (FRAME)” Proponents: Gretchen V. Omayana and Charina A. Valenzona

One Basic Research Proposal Approved
In addition to the Action Research studies, one Basic Research proposal from Butuan City Division was approved for funding, with an allocated amount of ₱15,000.00. The study aims to examine post-school outcomes of Alternative Learning System graduates.
• “Tracking the First Cohort: Post Graduation Outcomes of the Alternative Learning System Senior High School Graduates in Butuan City Division” Proponents: Regine S. Azarcon and Mary Joy P. Ceniza
Coordination and Compliance Emphasized
All approved research proponents were advised to coordinate closely with the Division Research Office to ensure proper submission of requirements, participation in research implementation orientation, and strict compliance with fund utilization and liquidation guidelines, in accordance with existing Department of Education research policies.
The Division emphasized the importance of immediate dissemination of the memorandum to ensure timely implementation of the approved studies.
The BERF program continues to support evidence-based decision-making in education by encouraging teachers and education personnel to undertake research that directly addresses classroom, school, and community-level challenges.
