History of Dumpao Elementary School

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”

It was in 1964 when there was a strong clamor from parents and barangay officials for a school to be erected in Barangay Dumpao so that children ages 6-7 will not enroll to Iguig Central School which is almost 2 kilometers away from the barangay.

Barangay Captain Pablo Calagui of Dumpao and Barangay Captain Silvestre Rumusud of Santiago set a meeting to convince the parents to help in the construction of a temporary shelter to house the school aged children to enroll therein as Grade 1 pupils. Through the leadership of both barangay captains, the community people worked hand in hand in the construction of the shelter in an idle lot at the eastern part of Dumpao where pupils coming from Dumpao and Santiago will have equal distances to travel. When the construction was done Barangay Captain Pablo Calagui informed the Principal Teacher of Iguig Central School in the person of Mr. David Santiago about the intention of the concerned barangays to open the school for the school year 1964-1965. Immediately, Mr. Santiago transmitted the information to the Division Office.

Mr. Samuel Fermin, the District Supervisor then named the school Dumpao Primary School and a teacher from Tuguegarao in the person of Mr. Eligio Buguina was recommended to be the Grade I teacher. Parents were so happy during that time minding the ease of their children in going to school and coming back home.

After a year, Mrs. Herminia Mendoza from Tuguegarao was hired as the Grade II teacher. From 1965-1969, the school has 2 teachers tending the education needs of the Grades 1 and II classes.

In summer of 1969, Dumpao PS was given a priority to have a 3-room building with the condition that there is a lot available. A person in the name of Mr. Renato Pamittan offered his lot for sale. The Barangay Council grasped the opportunity and allocated the amount for the purchase of the school site. It was on the same year when Mr. Buguina and Mrs. Mendoza transferred to the Division of Tuguegarao and Mrs. Dionicia R. Callueng and Mrs. Mildred Avila took over the vacated positions.

In 1973, Mrs Avila transferred to the Division of Tuguegarao and Mrs. Josefa Palattao, a native of Iguig took her place as a Grade 2 teacher. Mrs. Josefina R. Lim (1974) and Mr. Vicente Najorra (1975) were hired as a permanent teacher respectively. They were assigned as the class advisers in Grades 3 and 4. Mrs. Dionicia R. Callueng was appointed Teacher In-charge of the said school.

In 1988, Mrs. Dominga Mallari was stationed at Dumpao PS and was assigned as the class adviser of the Grade 6. On that same year, another school building was constructed through the cooperation of the community people where the Grade 5 class was housed.

The following year a Grade 6 class was created and was manned by a newly appointed teacher in the person of Mrs. Hipolita Viray. On that same year Dumpao Primary School was converted its classification to a complete elementary school.

There were 32 pioneer graduates of Dumpao Elementary school with 6 active and well-determined teachers.

Indeed, it was the realization of every Dumapoeno to be out from the bondage of ignorance by having a school of their own because Dumpao Elementary to this date is now producing numerous locally and globally competitive individuals who made a name not only for themselves but for their alma mater in particular.
