History of Dalaoig Elementary School
Dalaoig Community School was originally located on top of a hill at the northern part of Sitio Batog overlooking the wide rice fields over the meadows of Dalaoig, Pussian and Agani. It was founded in 1904 with Mr. Perfecto Malana handling 20 pupils.
In 1905, Grade II class was opened and in 1920 Grade III class followed where pupils from neighboring barangays of Pussian and San Esteban came to enrol and study.
In 1924, a strong typhoon visited the place and the school was dilapidated. Classes were held at the house of Eligio Batan and Placido Caraang to finish the school year. During those times, the place was often visited by strong typhoons. Barangay folks were worried about this situation. In 1925, the site of the school was transferred from the hill top to the lakeside on the southern part of sitio Batog, the school building was constructed. Now the present site of Dalaoig Elementary School. The school operated until the World War II broke out in 1946. The people left the place and the school was closed.
After World War II in 1949, the school was opened as Primary School with only two teachers handling combination classes.
The school population was increasing, and in 1964 there were already 4 teachers who taught single class. Year after, in 1966 Grade Vi class was opened with 18 pupils, the pioneer graduates of Dalaoig Elementary School.
As years passed, in 1970, the school population continued to increase. Extension classes for Grades I and II were created with 9 teachers headed by a Head Teacher.
In 1981, there was a problem on peace and order in the barangay, Insurgency prevailed. Some people in the barangay evacuated to other more peaceful barangays. This brought about the decrease of school population. Inspite of this situation, the government continued to extend its help to the people of the barangay. Home Economics and Industrial Arts buildings, concrete fences and repair of old classrooms were made.
Several years passed, the peace and order situation in the barangay went back to normal. Little by little, the school population increased and the transferred extension teachers were regained.
Some Sitios are very far from the school and pupils find it hard to reach the school especially during rainy seasons. For those reasons, the School Principal, Mr. Antonio Contillo together with the PTA Officials, and Barangay Officials joined together to propose and extension of the school located at Sitio Catarauan in 1997. In July 1998, to classroom building were established with Mrs. Melchora C. Batan as Grade I teacher and Ms. Bethsaida Espedido as the Grade II teacher.
With the desire to expand the educational services and bringing nearer to the pupils, in 2016, the Grade IV class was established through the leadership of the School Head, Mrs. Zenaida C. Contillo. Then in 2017, Grade 5 class as again opened and year after, Grade 6 class was established. In the 2018, Dalaoig Elementary School – Catarauan Annex become a complete elementary school. Since then, enrolment of Dalaoig Elementary School has been decreasing due to the completion of grade levels at Catarauan Annex, and as result there were excess rooms and other facilities in the Mother School.
The school is one of the 18 registered elementary schools in Alcala East District which offers Kindergarten to Grade 6. It has an area of 11, 222 sq. meters. Part of the land area is a rice field that helps the schools generated fund. It is geographically located near the creek at eastern part of Alcala with a distance away of 12 kms. from the national highway, approximately 1 km. away from the Annex School. Two adjacent elementary schools were also located namely San Esteban Elementary School, almost 1.5 kms. away from the School and Pussian Elementary School, approximately 1.3 kms from the school. The nearest Secondary school which is the nearest high school is approximately 5 kms. away from the propose Integrated School.
At present Dalaoig Elementary School is composed of eight teachers including the Officer In-Charge. Its buildings and other structures are currently on repair.
