Develop Global Citizenship and Intercultural Competency Skills
As was noted previously, participating in a GLE can help you become a global citizen who finds a “sense of belonging” with people all over the world. Global citizens are advocates for peace and diplomacy who learn how to address conflict in a variety of cultural contexts. You can strengthen your intercultural competency skills of empathy, cultural consciousness and patience, among many others. These are important skills for life and career.
Build career readiness skills in a rapidly evolving and globalized world.
Learning how to work well in intercultural teams across time zones is an essential skill in the global workplace. You will use technological tools that will help make the initial connection, and also learn how to communicate effectively. These are concrete ways in which will strengthen skills of digital literacy and interpersonal communication.
Make new friends across the world!
Some students have stayed in contact with their GLE partners across the globe, maintaining contact over messenger apps and/or social media. Others had opportunities to meet in person. Through these contacts, you will learn about the global community and make connections to your local context.
“The GLE is just a unique learning experience. It's rare you get situations where you [are] able to directly apply the course material and do so in a way that directly influences people in a normal class setting. This was really interesting, challenging in some ways, easier in others, I really enjoyed working with our international teams as well, so that was super fascinating and I think the project/problem was helpful.”
“I enjoyed many things about my Global Learning Experience. I found it extremely beneficial to conduct these interviews and interact with students from across the globe. We are all fighting the same issues, however it was extremely inspiring and educational for me to learn about how the issues we are all dealing with are affecting us all very differently.”
