Paonia K-8

Paonia, Colorado

During the Summer of 2021, Paonia Elementary school moved buildings and the Farm To School Team quickly got to work installing their new garden. With the help of many wonderful community members, school staff members and the Mountain Roots Farm team, we were able to add six raised garden beds, a shade structure and greenhouse to the PK-8 school grounds. We can't wait to see what delicious veggies we will grow next season and are looking forward to introducing nutrition lessons to the K-5 students there.

2022 Garden Update: The PK-8 Garden Club had a fun summer growing tomatoes, peppers, melons, strawberries, onions, carrots, and lots more! They learned about composting, soil health, seed saving, and even how to put down weed barrier! The Kindergarten class had also been utilizing the garden for science and cooking classes. Over the winter they'll get to grow hydroponic crops and flowers in the greenhouse and learn how to regrow food scraps.
