Basics
Books can be borrowed for 6 weeks at a time. They can be renewed at any time. Please see Mrs. Bonner to renew.
Students can have 5 books signed out at any given time.
To sign out a book you tell me your name and your photo is shown on my computer as I.D..
When you are finished reading the book please deposit it in the blue book return box outside the main doors of the library.
Our school has students from ages 13-18. Book choices and needs vary greatly. Please know that some books may be very graphic or disturbing to you as they may be too old for your reading needs. If you have any doubt about a book please do not hesitate to ask me any questions about it.
How to search for a book in the Destiny Catalogue?
Log into Destiny Discover using the link below. This is the best site to see books in our library. Here you can search for a book or browse by different genres. Or view our different collections for inspirational reading ideas. This site shows beautiful coloured book jackets and great book descriptions.

If you would like to sign into Destiny and view your personal account click the link below and use your username and password. It is the same as your student connect account. We do not place books on hold in our library.
How to find your book on the shelves?
Non-Fiction books are found on the blue shelves behind the cafe tables. They have a Dewey Decimal number ex. 130.1 SPA. The number is on the books spine with three letters below it. Here we see a number and then the author's first 3 letters of their last name. These are books based on real events or facts.
We have a Popular Non-Fiction, these are non fiction books that seem to be quite popular such as memoirs. We have grouped them together to make finding quality non-fiction books easy for you.
Poetry - Books of poems by popular writers.
True Life Stories which are Biographies and Autobiographies. They tell the details and events of a persons life. We have sections broken up by musicians, athletes and famous people.
True Life Crimes - True crime stories.
True Adventure - True life stories of people having amazing adventures.
Fiction books are found on the left hand side of the library. Fiction have FIC and author's first 3 letters of last name example FIC SHA. These books all have genre stickers and are organized according to the genre they belong to and then alphabetically by author's last name. These are books created from the imagination.
Our Fiction Genre Sections include:
A. Quick Reads- books that tend to be shorter & less time to read
B. Manga - comics or graphic novels usually published in Japan always black and white
C. Graphic Novel - a format not a genre using sequential art to tell a fiction or non fiction story.
D. Realistic - depicts what our world is really like
E. Historical - Based in a period of time typically against the backdrop of historical events
F. Fantasy - involves magical events sometimes inspired by myths
G. Mystery - follows a crime like a murder or disappearance
H. Romance - focuses on the love story of the main protagonist
I. Science Fiction- content is imaginative but based on science
J. Dystopian - imagines world or societies where there is deprivation, oppression or terror
K. Horror - morbid stories meant to cause fear and discomfort.
L. Picture Books - Books made up of pictures

Stories - books that are a collection of short stories
Classics- have been around for decades & were groundbreaking at their time & still are today. They are also believed to have contributed to future literature.
Novel in Verse, - a novel length narrative told through poetry such as A Poets Glossary by Edward Hirsch.
War - War themed novels
French Section - books written in French
How do I Read Ebooks?
To log into Destiny account you will need to use your Student Connect ID and password.
Go to the Ebooks section.
Look for the books you like and then choose check out to read the book online.
To read the book off-line you will need to download 2 apps for this: First Destiny Discover (to access the library catalogue) and 2nd Destiny Read (access ebook offline).
How can I use the Library Chromebooks?
You are allowed to use our library chrome books to do research, type an essay, search for a book, or anything school related. Students will not be permitted to play games on the chrome books. They are for educational purposes only. They are signed out for use in the library only. Chromebooks can be signed out from the Librarian.
To log in use your student connect information to access the library computers. You have been issued a student connect number by the school and you chose your password. If you have forgotten either of these please see the office for help as they can reset these for you.
Printing is also available in the library for ten cents per page. Please see me for any help needed.
