Weeding
To maintain the integrity and quality of the school’s Library Learning Commons resource collection; obsolete, inaccurate and unpopular materials will be removed from the collection.
The following factors are taken into consideration when weeding and discarding library materials:
Obsolescence
Physical condition
Relevance to current curriculum themes
Number of copies
Balance and coverage of the subject via other platforms; such as digital and internet mediums, including online databases
Use patterns
Value to the total collection
Importance of the work in a specific subject area
Discard Procedures
Once materials have deemed suitable to be removed from the collection the following procedures will be followed:
Offered to staff and students
Offered to non-profit groups such as Afretech Aid Society
Disposed of through recycling
