Career development is one of the three goals of the education system in British Columbia. Informed planning is key to a successful transition from secondary school. The various programs provide students with current and relevant information about career options and are designed to enhance the goal of career development.
Work Experience is a program for Grade 11 and 12 students that prepares students for the transition from school to the workplace by integrating classroom preparation with practical experience. Students can earn 4-8 graduation credits and WEX gives them the opportunity to explore a specific focus area of their interest.
Train in Trades is a dual credit program for Grades 11 and 12. Students who are accepted receive elective credits, post-secondary credits, and Industry Training Authority (ITA) apprenticeship training. In addition, tuition is paid by the Delta School District for partnership programs. Students can earn 8-24 graduation credits.
Work in Trades is a paid apprenticeship program where students in Grades 10 to 12 work under the supervision of a certified tradesperson. Students who participate in the program receive high school credits while they complete their paid apprenticeship. Students can earn 4 to 16 graduation credits and complete 480 training hours toward their trade credential.
