The Indigenous Youth Empowerment Group is designed to empower Indigenous youth by cultivating communication and team work skills, fostering cultural pride, and providing opportunities for community engagement. This program seeks to strengthen the voices of Indigenous students, equipping them with the tools and confidence needed to positively impact their communities.
Students in grades 8-12 are invited to join the Indigenous Youth Empowerment Group, which will include workshops and training, community and passion projects, and a year end retreat to celebrate all the successes. Meetings will be held once a month and students are encouraged to attend regularly. This program encourages youth to explore their identity, learn transferable skills, and build a network of peers and mentors who share their commitment to positive change.
There are leadership opportunities available for students in grades 6-7 as well, which will be shared on the Elementary Empowerment Opportunities page. Some collaboration between the elementary students and Indigenous Youth Empowerment Group will be available.
