Below you will find a list of music resources from band teacher www.johnmcallister.com.
Many of these exercises are different types of warm ups and technique practice to help build your skills and breath control on your instrument.
Some of the warm-up exercises have links to musical accompaniments (play-along tracks). These may make playing more fun, but if they confuse you at first, practice alone without the accompaniments until you feel comfortable.
A few words of encouragement from Mrs. Ferguson:
Link to an online Metronome
to help you keep steady time while you practice!
Remember:
Practice one or two measures/bars at a time until you can play them smoothly and correctly.
Then add the next two measures/bars, and create a set of four measures/bars. Keep doing this until you are playing the whole section or page.
Focus on the bars that challenge you, rather than replaying the easy bars over and over.
It is more important to play music slowly and correctly, than to play fast and sloppily. Use the metronome link and choose a slow tempo at first (around 40 beats per minute).
Slowly increase the tempo as you gain confidence and consistency in your ability to play the notes. If you can play the notes 5 times in a row WITHOUT ANY MISTAKES, you are ready to speed up a little.
If you are getting frustrated, STOP PLAYING for a little while. Do something else, then come back to it with a fresh mind and attitude.
