What is "Clearance? Stay tuned for more details. In short, students must be "cleared" by multiple people or departments in order to graduate. These people or departments keep lists of things like missing library books, unpaid fines, unpaid fees, unreturned Chromebooks, unreturned textbooks, unreturned student manipulatives (science or math), or art kits, music items, or sporting equipment, outstanding balances, and anything else outstanding. The counselors also have been in contact with all seniors about having enough credits and the right credits to graduate.
What can I do about "Clearance" in March and April?" Look around your home, car, bookbags, bookshelves, under beds, etc. for ANY textbooks, library books, or things from the school that were checked out to you. Return them as soon as you find them. Because of the pandemic, virtual school, and the hybrid situations, there are lots of library books that were checked out two years ago, and not returned.
How can I find out if I have anything that might prevent me from graduating? This is what the "Clearance" letter is for. Ms. Miller and Ms. Peyton are working with the "list keepers" to generate a meaningful and hopefully easy-to-work system well before our Clearance Day. We know that NO ONE wants to be running around the last few days of senior year getting cleared.
When am I getting my Cap & Gown? Cap & Gowns are delivered to the school. After you get your Clearance Letter, you are eligible to pick up your Cap & Gown on Thursday, Mary 12. We will let you know where on campus and what time. This is when you will try on your Cap & Gown with a Herff Jones professional who will make minor adjustments to the fit of the cap and or gown.
Regarding Cap & Gown fitting, what about hairstyles and heels? If you plan to wear heels as you walk across the stage, you are allowed to bring them for fitting purposes on the day of. But you can also estimate how high you will be. This is a gown. It is not floor length. Graduation is on a ball field. Be careful with heels. Hairstyles - The caps are adjustable. If hairstyles are a concern for you, know that the Herff Jones professionals will be on-site at Chamblee HS for you Thursday and Friday, and again graduation day at Hallford Stadium. You may call them directly and arrange a time to go to their offices (or possibly Hallford Stadium graduation week), prior to graduation day Friday, May 20.
Can parents come to the school to help during cap & gown fitting? No. We know it is exciting for parents, too. But, we are asking parents to wait for their seniors to bring home their caps & gown. Seniors, you may not bring your parents or guardians to help you during the fitting at school. Herff Jones Professionals will make sure your senior is in a properly fitted cap & gown.
A student asked a great question - What is the dress code for the attire worn under the gown? We are checking on that answer and will get back to you.
