Clearance Letters are tools that help senior students clear all outstanding obligations to the school and district before graduation. The shorthand is "clearance."
What is "Clearance? Stay tuned for more details. In short, students must be "cleared" of all overdue fines in order to graduate. There are several departments keeping lists of things like missing library books, not-yet-completed media release and transportation forms, unpaid fees, unreturned Chromebooks, unreturned textbooks, and anything else outstanding. The counselors count academic passing grades and credits. Counselors have been in contact with all seniors about having enough credits and the correct credits to graduate all semester long.
What can I do about "Clearance" in April?" Look around your home, car, bookbags, bookshelves, under beds, etc. for ANY textbooks, library books, Chromebook chargers, Chromebook bags, Chromebooks, or any other things assigned to you from the school. Return them as soon as you find them. Because of the pandemic, virtual school, and the hybrid situations, there are lots of library books and textbooks that were checked out two years ago, and not yet returned.
How can I find out if I have anything that might prevent me from graduating? This is what the "Clearance" letter is for. Ms. Miller and Ms. Peyton are working with the "list keepers" to generate pre-clearance lists. Hopefully this is an easy-to-work process -- well before our Final Clearance Day. See the sections below, on this webpage. We are adding to the list, as we get information. We know that NO ONE wants to be running around the last few days of senior year getting cleared. For now, please be patient. We will get you the information as soon as we have it.
Media release and Transportation form? Click here to visit the online form or access the forms from the Senior Class of 2022 Google Classroom. They are due to be completed by Wednesday, April 20.
What do I need to know about Chromebook turn-in? Questions, ask Dr. Conner. Dr. Conner has emailed the steps to the parents and students when the device is turned in. Parents and students can log into the account that they created, or they can call the number on the website or Click Here to visit the website. Students Who have Chromebooks will fall into 1 of the 3 groups:
Group 1 - Your Chromebook, bag, and original power cord are not damaged, lost, or stolen. Turn it in along with the bag and original power cord.
Group 2 - Your Chromebook, bag, and original power cord are damaged, lost, or stolen. Did you buy insurance? Yes, then you need to "file a claim". Then you will bring Dr. Conner the approved claim. This approved claim will be a letter from the insurance company that says "approved for repair" or approved for replacement" that has a claim number.
Group 3 - Your Chromebook, bag, and original power cord are damaged, lost, or stolen. Did you buy insurance? NO, then you need to pay cash or money order for the damages.
What are academic graduation requirements? You can look at the chart below. Speak to your counselor for specific guidance.
Senior Dues Clearance
Seniors must pay their dues. See Ms. Peyton to pay your dues.
Cap & Gown Clearance
Seniors must pay for their Cap & Gown. Ms. Peyton has a list of paid. If you have not paid for your cap & gown, will need to visit the Herff Jones Page to pay for your cap & gown.
Textbook Clearance
Seniors must return or pay for replacements of textbooks from the years 2018 to 2021. Ms. Miller in room 4138, has compiled a list of textbooks for seniors to check. Ms. Miller is NOT taking these books or money for lost or damaged books.
Turn in overdue (2018, 2018, 2020 issued) textbooks to the teacher that issued the textbook. See Ms. Bolden if your issuing teacher is no longer teaching at Chamblee High School.
Turn in outstanding (2021 issued) textbooks to the teacher that issued the textbook.
Chromebook Clearance -- Senior Chromebooks
If you have been issued a Chromebook, you must return the entire package (Chromebook, both parts of the charger, and the case). If you are missing the case or charger, go ahead and order one now to make sure it is delivered to your home or school on time to get cleared before graduation.
Be prepared to pay in cash only for the cost of a case, or the cost of a charger, or the cost of a damaged Chromebook, or the cost of a replacement Chromebook.
We will do a collection day and take a good look at them and do a final clearance. If there is damage, they will need to be prepared to take care of it asap.
Dr. Conner recommends turning in damaged Chromebooks now.
Prices are:
Damaged Chromebook-chromebooks that are damaged beyond repair (cracked screen, cracked casing), do the insurance claim now to have it replaced or fixed. If you do not have insurance, go ahead and order a replacement now so it is back on time to clear you for graduation.
If you have any previous flags on your account (devices from middle school or previous years at Chamblee HS), you must clear those as well.
Contact Dr. Conner with any questions and clear your account early if needed. As soon as you are done with your device, turn it in, if you can and use a personal device. But work to get your account cleared.
Library Clearance
Seniors with overdue books as of 3/2/22 are on a list that Ms. Holland posted on red paper, posted on the left side of the library entrance. It is not readable on the internet. Stop by the library to read the list of names. If you're on that list Ms. Holland can give you your options.
