In the past century, people with disabilities have had to overcome many obstacles to obtaining their full inclusion in society. Accessibility issues in the workplace, in schools and to public buildings, access to inclusive education and accommodations in the classroom, the right to self-determination, and the right to equality, recognition and representation – people with disabilities have had to fight for every right they have gained thus far.
In this unit you will examine the issue of social injustice and inequity that members of this community still face in a society that still favours ableism and continues to stigmatize people with mental health disabilities.
