Mr. Torre Goodson was born in Chicago, Illinois, but raised in East Point Georgia. He is a product of the Fine Arts Magnet at North Atlanta High School. His musical career started in the church, then in school, and eventually, what he considers a passion became a full-time job.
Mr. Goodson graduated from Albany State University, where he marched with the Marching Ram Show Band and served as Percussion section Leader and later, Percussion Instructor. He also played drum set for the ASU jazz band and was principal percussion for the ASU symphonic band. While in college, he played for 2 years as a member of the GMEA all-college band, and served as Principal percussion for the HBCU National Band Director's Consortium. He holds a Master's Degree in Music Education from Boston University and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition to being the head Director of Bands at Douglas County High School, Mr. Goodson is also the Director of Bands at Clark-Atlanta University, located in Atlanta, Ga.
Currently, Mr. Goodson is devoted to music education full-time. Like most of the students he's taught, he still uses music performance as a stress reliever, a pastime, a means of expression, and extra income. It is his hope that as a band director, he is able to help his students discover the joys of music making as much as he has. His professional credits include several studio recordings, commercial compositions, percussion work at several large churches in the Atlanta, Ga area as well as ministry and outreach through choir workshops and activities. Mr Goodson is a regionally sought percussion and band clinician, and is a Ludwig/Conn-Selmer Educator Artist.
Outside of music, Mr. Goodson enjoys High School and Division II football, comic books (he's a Batman fan), movies, cartoons, church, and technology. He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, National Association for Music Educators, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity and Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. He is the proud father of two, Kennedy and Kal-El, and is married to the former Carnique Tyus.
