Atlanta, GA – In a highly anticipated Class 6A season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday night, the No. 3-ranked Douglas County Tigers delivered a statement performance, defeating the No. 6-ranked North Gwinnett Bulldogs, 21–7, in the finale of the 34th Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic.
Key Highlights:
Rah’Keith Kelly led the offensive charge with two touchdown runs, earning the Robbie Hunter MVP Award. He scored first on a 12-yard rush late in the opening quarter, then punched in a 2-yard TD just before the quarter ended.
Quarterback Michael Johnson (Utah commit) made a significant impact in the first half, rushing for 71 yards and passing for 35, including a 27-yard touchdown connection to Dre Reading. Johnson exited early in the second half due to a hamstring tweak.
The defensive line stole the show—senior Richard Dyce was particularly dominant, racking up 10 tackles, forcing a fumble, blocking a punt, and setting the tone.
North Gwinnett’s only score came on a 14-yard quarterback run by Jake Godfree in the second quarter.
Douglas County’s defense held North Gwinnett to just 143 total yards, shutting them out in the second half.

“That is a good North Gwinnett team, but we missed some shots,” admitted head coach Johnny White following the game, while also acknowledging that the team “has work to do.”
Reflecting on the defense’s performance, he said, "Since January our defense has been getting disrespected... We’ve got a point to prove."
The Tigers start the season at 1–0 and will look to build on this marquee win in their upcoming matchups.
Despite the strong showing, Coach White emphasized the importance of refinement and focus moving forward: “We have to hit the drawing board on Monday... we will be ready to go next Friday.”

Douglasville, GA – August 12, 2025 – Douglas County High School proudly announces that senior wide receiver Aaron Gregory has been named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s (AJC) 2025 Super 11, a prestigious list recognizing the top high school football players in Georgia.
Gregory, a standout on the Tigers’ offense and a Texas A&M University commit, has gained state and national attention for his exceptional athleticism, route-running precision, and game-changing plays on the field. As one of only 11 athletes across Georgia to receive this honor, Gregory’s selection underscores his elite talent and relentless work ethic.

Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial illness that affects the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis can cause shock, coma and death within hours of the first symptoms.
If your teen (11th grader, age 16 years or older) has not been vaccinated against meningococcal disease, they will be required to do so before starting the 2025-2026 school year.

Douglasville, GA — The Douglas County High School Tigers football team is poised to kick off the 2025 season with a marquee matchup against the North Gwinnett Bulldogs in the prestigious Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic. This highly anticipated game is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 8:00 PM, taking place under the bright lights of Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, now in its 34th year, serves as the premier kickoff event for Georgia high school football, bringing together some of the state's most competitive programs. This year's event spans four days, featuring 11 games across multiple venues, culminating in the Saturday night showdown between Douglas County and North Gwinnett .
Douglas County enters the season with high expectations following a strong 2024 campaign, where they advanced to the Class 6A semifinals. The Tigers are eager to build on their success and make a statement against a formidable North Gwinnett squad, which reached the 6A quarterfinals last season .

Douglasville, GA – Douglas County High School will host Fall Sports Picture Day on Saturday, August 2, 2025, beginning at 8:00 AM (TIGER STADIUM). All student-athletes participating in fall sports should arrive on time and in full uniform, prepared for both individual and team photos.
Parents will have the opportunity to purchase photo packages. Order forms will be distributed to athletes in advance and will also be available at the event.
