PROFESSIONAL

I have been a math teacher for 24 years. My three major stints were four years at Thunder Ridge High School, nine years at Montbello High School and thirteen years at Sierra Middle School. I would describe my purpose of teaching into two categories. The first is derived from a Tom Landry Quote: "My goal is to have you do things that you might not want to do now, so that you can achieve the things that you want to in the future."

One of the other things that drives me as a teacher is to show the kids that there is a purpose to what I am teaching, and that it can be applied to real life. I think that there has to be a purpose to every lesson. I was able to dive into this passion when I taught an Extreme Engineering Class for five years at Montbello High School. This was a class where I was able to think of some things that I thought the kid's would think is cool and apply math. Some examples included scuba diving, simulated skydiving, skiing, robot building, the use of cell phones plus many other things. The website below will give you an idea of some of the things we did if you are interested.

ATTITUDE

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes.
