Why read during the summer?
Summer reading helps to prevent the dreaded "summer slide." Summer slide is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the summer months. When kids read over the summer, they retain those skills they worked so hard to learn during the school year. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to motivate your child to read during the summer!
Become a reading rock star by joining the DCSD Summer Reading Program. Read 20 minutes a day (a minimum of 500 minutes) between May 24 - August 15, 2025, and fill out this Google form to be eligible for prizes. Alternatively, you can print and fill out this log to hand in to Mrs. Deeter by August 18, 2025.
